10 Golf Facilities in Canada 2017 Edition © Golf Canada and The PGA of Canada 1 # OF 6-HOLE COURSES IN MANITOBA, AND CANADA W hile Manitoba has a reputation for being one of Canada's coldest provinces, it is also known as a hub for golfers. Manitoba's rolling prairie landscapes and natural surroundings present a variety of stunning golfing options. Including the only 6-hole layout in Canada, Manitoba is home to 130 golf facilities, half of which are 9-hole facilities. All but 8 of the facilities are open to the public. There are two new golf facilities on the horizon for Manitoba one still in planning stages, the other under construction. Since 2000, five facilities have opened in the province, and one since 2010. The majority of the province's growth in golf course supply took place in the second half of the 20th century, a common worldwide trend. DID YOU KNOW? The first golf course established in Manitoba was Stony Mountain Golf Club in 1889. The warden of the federal penitentiary on that particular site at the time had the inmates build a 9-hole golf course. It no longer exists.
