14 Golf Facilities in Canada 2017 Edition © Golf Canada and The PGA of Canada O ntario, Canada's largest province, continues to dominate the Canadian golf landscape with 805 golf facilities accounting for more than 35 percent of the country's total supply. Ontario has more than double the amount of golf facili- ties than any other province and also features the most diverse collection of golf courses, with the largest number of 36-hole facilities. More than two thirds of the province's facilities feature 18 holes or more. There are 231 9-hole facilities and six 12-hole facilities adding to the province's diversity of layouts. Approximately nine percent of the province's total golf supply is tied to a resort, real estate development, or both. Ontario has seen 65 new golf facilities open since 2001, that's more than triple the amount of courses during that time frame, than in any other province. While four new facilities are planned or currently in development, Ontar- io's 19 facility closures represents 37 percent of the total Canadian closures since 2015. As with many major market cities, a number of Ontario's course closures reflect pres- sure towards residential development in city centres and major markets with soaring real estate valuation.
