9  | SPrING 2014 Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club Bathurst, New Brunswick (Semi-Private) Golfers can wear jeans on the course, but they can't wear a shirt without a collar or sleeves. Since their lounge area is open to the public, folks can pretty much wear whatever they feel comfortable in and if that means jeans, a T-shirt and sandals, that's cool. Gowan Brae's head professional Adam Chamberlain says the club is relaxed when it comes to their dress code because the club wants people to feel not only comfortable, but also welcome. "We don't want to force people to spend a lot of money on apparel to take up the game," Chamberlain says. "We want people to feel comfortable and have them get excited about golf." The Willows Golf & Country Club Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Semi-Private) It's the norm on roughrider game days to support the team wearing a green and white jersey. However, while your favourite green and white CFL jersey and matching backward hat is allowed, board shorts, bathing suits and cut- offs are frowned upon. Brennen Gee, the Willows' head profes- sional, admits that the dress code is loose but adds that golf is a business and as such there are a lot of choices for people to spend their discretionary time and money. "We appreciate those who wear golf shirts and tailored slacks," he says, adding, "but with golf courses fighting for the same revenue it's hard to restrict some- one who wears a ball cap backwards." The Fairmont Jasper Park Golf Club Jasper, Alberta (Resort) According to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge website, the dress code for the course states: "We require proper golf attire. Collared shirts, tailored pants or shorts, and appropriate footwear. Denim, track pants and shorts, and sweat pants are unacceptable." However, it's also very important to remember that Jasper is in the middle of the rocky Mountains so the weather can get nasty in a hurry. "If a guest comes in and it's freezing cold and he's wearing jeans we'll have to make a judge- ment call," says Jasper's director of golf Gregg Lown. "Here on the resort we pride ourselves on our guest services, so in the end, the cus- tomer is always right." Club de Golf La Vallée du Richelieu Sainte-Julie, Quebec (Private) e 36-hole facility that hosted a Champi- ons Tour event in 2012 and 2013 is firm on golf attire only while on the golf course, but jeans are oK in the parking lot, pro shop and locker rooms. PGA of Canada president and La Vallée's head professional says you can come to the course dressed how you were at home or work. "You can arrive exactly how you are, come into the pro shop or locker rooms," he says. "But upstairs in the clubhouse you are not allowed to wear your jeans or your cap."
