CASE STUDY - FRED COLGAN GOLF ACADEMY FRED COLGAN GOLF ACADEMY (AGFC) www.agfc.qc.ca HOW LTPD IMPACTS THE BUSINESS: In the words of head coach and PGA member Fred Colgan, "LTPD is my business plan." All of the academy's programming is directly tied to the stages of LTPD. The coaches required skills and athlete progression are directly related to LTPD. FACILITIES: The coaching business operates at multiple facilities including the Royal Quebec , Stoneham and Beauce golf courses. These facilities include: • Outdoor range - 18,000 square feet of teeing area. • V1 and Flightscope coaching software systems • 1,000 square foot indoor putting green • 8,000 square foot putting green • Full short game area • 2 practice holes • 4,000 foot square fitness area • Winter training facility (on site in Canada) includes 7 practice bays and 3 studios COACH AND ATHLETE RECRUITMENT: Everything starts with the academy's CN Future Links and Golf in Schools program. The AGFC believes that they need to help young kids love the game of golf and after that it is much easier to develop them as players and keep them as regular clients. One of the key strategies in recruiting athletes is attending many regional and provincial golf tournaments. They talk regularly with parents and potential athletes about what the AGFC can do to support their development as athletes. Coach recruitment is almost exclusively athletes that the AGFC has previously coached. The academy believes these former athletes are familiar with the culture and vision and this will allow for more consistent coach delivery. Coaches at the Academy are recruited based on a solid university education in a relevant field. Membership in the PGA of Canada is important at the academy for the golf specific coaches. Following their recruitment based on area of specialty, if needed, the academy will assist in their development to complete his or her PGA membership. OTHER: The website is the key communication tool for coaches and athletes. Each of the golf coaches and specialists use this online portal to track athlete progress between the monthly coaches meetings. The LTPD compliant pathway at the AGFC consists of the following programs: 1. Future Links\Snag - 6 to 12 years old (initiation, beginner) 2. St-Louis-de-Gonzague - 8 to 12 years old Annual program (elementary school) 3. Club Sportif Civil - 10 to 17 years old Annual program (kids from different schools and different golf courses) 4. Académie St-Louis - 12 to 16 years old Annual program (high school program and considered to be a high-level of athlete) 5. St-Lawrence - 17 to 19 years old Annual program (junior college program and considered to be a high-level of athlete) 6.
