39 There is nothing you can do about your early life now, except understand it. You can, however, do everything about the rest of your life. -- Warren Bennis The Head Professionals featured in this research have all achieved considerable suc- cess in their careers. This did not happen by accident. They didn't wait un l a golf club or their immediate supervisor took an interest in them and come up with a plan for their development and/or career. As has been made clear in this research, these Head Professionals took charge of their development by first knowing themselves, knowing what they wanted to achieve, look- ing for job opportuni es that provided important industry-related experiences, taking risks, coming up short, learning from their mistakes and seeking help from whomever they felt could assist them in their career. While all aspiring golf professionals have acquired certain skills and abili es along the way, it seems what happens a er they are hired into a par cular role has as much or more impact on their long-term career success as anything that has happened before. In short, Head Professionals who were successful in reaching their career goals demon- strated not only a passion for the game of golf, but an ability to learn from their expe- riences, grow, and constantly adapt to their changing environments. It is never too late to be what you might have been. -- George Eliot
