LACK OF CONFIDENCE - When asked to iden fy which two areas they wished they were more capable in prior to becoming a head professional, almost 70 % iden fied Man- aging Finance and Personnel followed by 54 % who selected Marke ng / Promo ng / Selling. Although these responses are retrospec ve and date back 10 or more years in some cas- es, the results suggest that Head Professionals felt ill-equipped upon entering their role to adequately meet the financial, marke ng, sell- ing and personnel management requirements. Coincidentally, the 2016 PGA's research found that rela ve to the other four areas of responsi- bility, confidence in performing marke ng-relat- ed du es was lowest across all job levels, from assistant professionals to Head Professionals to general managers. These findings highlight the need of aspiring golf professionals to build capabili es in the business and people-management side of the industry prior to applying for and accep ng a head professional role. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT As illustrated in the graph below, 97 % of current Head Professionals had acquired their PGA of Canada Class "A" License. Almost 92 % had completed either a Professional Golf Management Diploma and/or a University/ College Business degree. Considering the popula on who completed this survey, these results would suggest that this level of educa onal achievement represents the minimum standard that is expected of all golf professionals who aspire to Head Professional posi ons. In addi on, a further 66 % reported they have par cipated in ongoing professional development offered by the PGA of Canada or zone. This would further suggest that a con nual commitment to learning new things, remaining open and curious to new ideas is an important element to not only obtaining a Head Professional role, but maintaining the role. 0% 100% Standard First Aid + CPR...
