6 Golf Facilities in Canada 2017 Edition © Golf Canada and The PGA of Canada PROVINCIAL OVERVIEW 8 6 P E R C E N T of all of Canada's golf facilities are located in its largest provinces: Ontario, Québec, Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. All but 10 of Canada's 2,298 golf facilities are found within the country's 10 provinces, the rest in two of Canada's three territories. Ontario has the highest density of facilities with 805, which is 35 percent of the country's total supply, the majority of which are public facilities (680 of the 805 are public), which is common across most provinces. Meanwhile, 9-hole facilities account for 29 percent of Ontario's total supply. Québec has the second-most golf facilities in Canada, and included among them are 31 resort/real estate operations, second-most among all provinces. Not surprisingly, the two larger western provinces, Alberta and British Columbia, comprise most of the supply of courses in that part of the country while Ontario and Québec make up most of the eastern and central numbers. Alberta and British Columbia are home to 612 facilities, or 27 percent of the total supply. The golf inventory for Alberta and British Columbia is 308 and 304 respectively. Not surprisingly, given their populations, Saskatche- wan and Manitoba are the only other provinces with more than 100 golf facilities. Saskatchewan is fifth largest in terms of supply with 206 facilities, but ranks second only to Ontario in terms of 9-hole facilities. Manitoba has 130 facilities, exactly half of which are 9 holes. Manitoba is also the lone province to have a 6-hole facility. With 75 facilities — including the two at Cabot Links that have received incredible reviews since their opening, landing in many 'Best of' lists — Nova Scotia has the most facilities of the lesser-populated prov- inces with 75, followed by New Brunswick, which has 54. Even though it has a relatively small land area, Prince Edward Island has 25 facilities, which are all open to the public. There are a mere 5,869 residents of Prince Edward Island per golf course, and with that many courses, Prince Edward Island has the most golf courses in Canada per capita. Newfoundland and Labrador, which is Canada's easternmost province, has the lightest golf supply with 22 facilities. The last of Canada's 10 golf facilities are located in two of the three territories, including the most northern golf course in the country, Yellowknife Golf Club. The Yukon has six golf facilities, all of which are public, while the Northwest Territories has four public facilities. Nunavut does not have a golf course of record.
