GOLF ORGANIZATIONS Golf Canada is the governing body of golf in Canada, representing more than 340,000 members at 1,500 clubs across the country. Recognized by Sport Canada as the National Sport Organization (NSO) for golf in this country, Golf Canada is responsible for promoting participation in and a passion for the game of golf in Canada. Golf Canada actively conducts championships, programs and services to help shape the present and future of golf in Canada. Golf Canada, in partnership with the PGA of Canada actively oversees and manages Canada's high performance athlete development and Team Canada program, Golf in Schools and CN Future Links, Canada's national junior golf program. Golf Canada, through its partnership with the PGA of Canada, is fully committed to the training, education and employment of golf coaches in this country. There is no high performance sport program in the word that has been successful without the existence of a solid foundation of coaching. Golf Canada, serving as the National Sport Organization for golf in Canada is working very closely with its Provincial Golf Association partners to ensure there are opportunities to support performance through golf coaching and that jobs exist for individuals who have a passion and skill set to work in this capacity. The PGA of Canada was established in 1911 and recently celebrated its centenary. The PGA of Canada is the second oldest and third largest professional golf association in the world. The PGA of Canada is a nonprofit Association comprised of 3,700 golf professionals across the country. The PGA of Canada puts a strong emphasis on the importance of player development and the development of golf in Canada. Working with partners like Golf Canada, the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada, Physical and Health Education Canada, the Coaching Association of Canada, and Sport Canada, the PGA of Canada has developed numerous programs aimed at supporting the sport but at the same time, developing highly skilled coaches. These programs provide PGA of Canada members the opportunity to use these competencies to develop young athletes through to developing competitors and high performance athletes. 41
