CASE STUDY - PICKERING HORSE CENTRE www.pickeringhorsecentre.ca OVERVIEW: The Pickering Horse Centre is a full service equestrian centre located in Claremont, Ont. Services available at the centre include riding lessons with up to 150 students; summer horse camp with 192 campers; Bronze, Silver and Reining horse shows with up to 210 competitors. COACHING STRUCTURE: The Pickering Horse Centre has 10 NCCP Certified coaches and instructors. The head coach is Danielle Yaghdjian who is supported by four full time coaches and six part time coaches Competition Coach (specializes in introduction to competition athletes) • Oversee the athletes at the provincial level • Scheduling competitions • Coaches athletes in training and at competitions • Prepares students for the Equine Canada Rider Level testing • Organizes and oversees the horse camps 14 Competition Coach Specialist (specializes in high performer athletes) • Oversees the athletes that compete at the provincial/national level • Organizes yearly training plans • Works with athletes in training and at competitions • Prepares students to become certified in the coaching system USE OF VOLUNTEERS: The centre uses volunteers who have completed their Equine Canada rider levels (at least level 4). This level ensures the centre is comfortable with the volunteers working around the horses and students without supervision. Volunteers must be at least 15-years old and their roles are to help younger riders groom and tack, feed the horses, clean tack and keep the barn aisles tidy. ADMINISTRATION: The day-to-day administration of the centre is managed by the four full-time coaching staff. Administrative duties include phone and email communications, completion of progress reports, horse show preparation, sponsorship, monitoring the health and welfare of the horses and the preparation and distribution of the monthly newsletter.
