For Rob Roxborough it is a course whose exclusive reputation has overshadowed its merits. Regardless, when Magna Golf Club opens its doors to Canada's best golf professionals on June 24 for the PGA of Canada Championship (sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade), both Roxborough and Carrick are certain that people will be surprised by the quality of one of Canada's most discussed private clubs. The championship will be free for any spectators who wish to see the best PGA players in Canada or check out the pristine fairways at Magna, which have hosted some of the game's biggest names in the past. "We've had Tiger Woods and Ernie Els here, and Annika Sorenstam in the past, but one of the things we really wanted to do was to showcase the golf course," says Roxborough, Magna's longstanding general manager and a PGA of Canada member. "I think people are really going to be surprised by how good it is and it'll live up to the level of expectation they have for the facility." "It is a course that was designed on a really large scale, meant to mirror what you see at places like San Francisco Golf Club with wide features," says Carrick, referencing A.W. Tillinghast's fabled private course in California that is known for its massive bunkers. "I think a lot of people won't have seen the course and this really will give them the opportunity to come and experience it."
