This research project was conducted by the National Golf Federation (NGF). The PGA of Canada conducted Roles and Responsibilities research and the key messages from that study were released to members in 2017. The Hiring Practices research was designed as a next step to build from the Roles and Responsibilities data. Being a quantitative research project, Roles and Responsibilities allowed the PGA of Canada to gather information from a large sample size and collect statistical evidence. The study identified areas where PGA of Canada members were excelling in their role and gaps where more member training is required. The qualitative nature of the Hiring Practices research allows the PGA of Canada to gain an understanding of the meaning behind the data from Roles and Responsibilities. Qualitative research is designed as an exploratory research method to identify underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. Conducting qualitative research to build from Roles and Responsibilities allows the PGA of Canada to provide an additional level of detail. The PGA of Canada has created the following summary document based on the themes from extensive interviews. This summary of the Hiring Practices interviews features qualitative data to address each of the research objectives. The topics covered in this summary highlight themes that were expressed during multiple interviews. METHODOLOGY: • Forty-six qualitative interviews were conducted with managers responsible for hiring junior and/or senior- level golf professionals. • The PGA of Canada sent out an open invite to members for participation and generated a list that included several NGCOA – Canada members. • Interviewees represented a variety of facilities.
